Summary of the Update
A new version of the Digiexam Isolated Web App (version 26.4.0) and its accompanying Digiexam Chromebook Sidecar has been released. This update brings background performance improvements and ongoing security enhancements for exam environments.
To ensure uninterrupted service, Chromebooks must fetch and load the latest version of both components in sync. The only thing needed from teachers and administrators is to encourage students to perform a full device restart of their Chromebooks at the start of the day.
Why a Device Restart is Necessary
ChromeOS updates managed policy extensions, such as the Sidecar extension, most reliably when a device performs a full reboot
Automatic Sync: Simply shutting the lid or logging out may put the Chromebook into sleep mode without fetching the latest Sidecar extension updates.
Full Reboot: Restarting the Chromebook forces ChromeOS to connect to Google Admin policies, fetch the latest extension dependencies, and ensure the Sidecar is fully aligned with the IWA app before an exam starts.
Role | Recommended Action |
|---|---|
IT Admins & Teachers | Remind students to perform a full device restart at the beginning of the school day or prior to launching an exam. |
Students | Perform a proper restart of the Chromebook before opening Digiexam to ensure all updates apply automatically. |
Automatic Student Guidance in the App
If a student attempts to start Digiexam without having restarted their device post-update, the app will automatically detect that the Sidecar needs to be updated.
Instead of blocking access unexpectedly, the Digiexam app will display on-screen instructions guiding the student to:
Exit the app or log out of the session.
Perform a complete restart of the Chromebook.
Relaunch Digiexam to proceed with their exam smoothly.
By encouraging a quick restart ahead of time, it prevents minor delays during exam startup.
