In this guide, we explain how you add the dictation tool to an exam and how it can be used in an exam.
NOTE! This needs to be done by an account manager at your school/organization
Digiexam provides the possibility to use the web tool Whisper-OpenAI as an external tool. This tool allows for approximately 30 seconds of dictation to be transcribed. The recording and transcription can be repeated as many times as a student wishes.
Please note that the external tool must be added by an account manager at the school first, before it becomes available for teachers to use in exams and assignments. It is important that you test the external tool internally and verify that it can be used correctly.
NOTE! We have only tested the dictation in Swedish and English!
How to create the external tool
To add the external tool on the school/organization, go to Create external tool, select an icon and name the tool "Speech to text"
When the Account Manager adds the external tool "Speech to text", the Landing page URL is added with the correct URL you want to use. We recommended the following URL:
https://huggingface.co/spaces/openai/whisper
Teachers don't need to edit the landing page URL since it's a specific tool.
When e.g. https://huggingface.co/spaces/openai/whisper is entered in the landing page URL, it is automatically added to "Allow individual web pages".
No other domain addresses need to be entered.
NOTE! The exam setting "Allow copy-pasting of text in the exam" and Microphone needs to be enabled for this tool to work!
Microphone needs to be turned ON.
How the tool should be used in an exam
Step 1. Start an exam and click on the external tool
The external tool can both be started after and before the exam has been started
Step 2. Click on "Record" to start the recording
Step 3. Click on "Stop" and "Transcribe"
Your text should be visible as seen down below
Step 4. Press CTRL/CMD C and CTRL/CMD V. Copy and paste the generated text into the answer box seen in the next picture.
